There are approximately 2 million (government estimation) Disabled Parents in the UK.

As we are all aware every pregnancy and child is different.  There are no definitive manuals (and unfortunately no volume controls!).  We learn how to parent by our own experiences, the advice and experience of family and friends, and of course, professional advice.

Now throw a disability into the equation.  The advice from friends and family may not be as relevant because of the condition.  Friends and family may not be as forthcoming with those useful snippets of advice due to concerns over the parent-to-be's condition or that the parent-to-be will see them as interfering.  Access to mainstream pregnancy and parenting groups may be difficult.  Many disabled parents feel that professionals are either experts on pregnancy or their condition.  There is not a holistic approach to disabled parenting.  See about me for details of my own experiences

Currently, disabled parents have to cross their fingers and hope that their pregnancy professionals have a little knowledge of their condition or that their condition professionals have had children.  This is where J-S Training can help.

J-S Training offers affordable, friendly and accessible training to professionals to enable them to support disabled parents in all aspects of parenting.

J-S Training offers training in broad areas of disabled parenting and also in condition specific sessions.  These can be in planned sessions (see training sessions) or in in-house training - tailored to your organisation's needs - either for a particular client or as general departmental training.
